MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The City of Milwaukee has unveiled new artwork at Red Arrow Park as part of its ongoing efforts to curb reckless driving.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson helped unveil the "art car" in a Wednesday, Aug. 14 press conference.
The installation, titled "The Moving City," features a Ford pickup truck covered in carved traffic cones, created by local artist Sarah Davitt during the Public Artist in Residence program. Davitt is the first PAIR to collaborate with the Department of Public Works in working on art-based solutions to tackle reckless driving.
The artwork launched Wednesday, Aug. 14 with the aim of highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and emphasize the importance of street safety.
"The Moving City" will be transported to city events throughout August, including Skate Night at MMSD West Basin on Thursday, Aug. 15, Center Street Daze between Holton and Humbolt on Saturday, Aug. 17, Summer of Soul at the Marcus Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, Aug. 21, Run Back to School at MPS Central Services building on Saturday, Aug. 24 and Washington Park's Wednesday concert series on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
