MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Water Works has recently released its 2025 water quality report. The report covers water served to more than 900,000 Milwaukeeans and 16 surrounding communities.
Results found that Milwaukee's drinking water, which comes from Lake Michigan, is safe and meets all state and federal standards.
Officials regularly collect samples to test for more than 500 contaminants, and they took 56,000 samples just last year.
Thursday morning, CBS 58 got an inside look at their microbiology lab where the daily testing happens.
"So, someone could have bacteria living in their faucet, for example, and if it's specific to an individual location, then we can address that within that location," said Michelle Natarajan, water quality manager. "But if it's a widespread issue in our distribution system, obviously then we'd want to know that right away."
Officials say PFAs-forever chemicals-are present, but in very small amounts where the levels are considered safe and lead levels are below federal action limits.
