Mount Pleasant traffic stop reveals gun and marijuana in car; driver arrested

MOUNT PLEASANT, WI (CBS 58) -- A 22-year-old Racine man is in jail today following a high speed chase in Mount Pleasant early Saturday morning.   Curtis Collins was arrested after officers discovered a 9mm handgun with an extended magazine and some marijuana in his vehicle.   Collins, a felony offender, has been charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Possession of THC and Failure to Stop for a Traffic Officer.

Just after 2 AM, Mount Pleasant Officers spotted a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on HWY 31, just south of County Road MM.   The Officers pursued the vehicle and were finally able to stop it on Golf Avenue just north of Rapids Drive.

Mount Pleasant and Racine Police Officers conducted a high risk stop, detaining the driver and a passenger.   A search of the vehicle revealed the handgun and marijuana.

The passenger in the vehicle was interviewed by police and then released.
