MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at a gas station on Milwaukee's north side Monday morning.

The robbery happened near 12th and North around 5:10 a.m. The employee that was beaten didn't want to go on camera, but told CBS 58 a suspect came into the store and demanded to go to the cash register. The employee said he was then hit in the head and back. He says the suspect took several hundred dollars.

A man who comes to the gas station often said a lot of people hang out around the area at night which leads to crime.

"I believe every type of business should have some type of security because it deters people from it," Rodney Johnson said. "It makes people think there's an officer there, so why would I try to rob this place."

Milwaukee Police are continuing to search for a suspect.
