UPDATE: According to the Oak Creek Police Department, James "Jimmy" Nowak passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As MPD Officer James "Jimmy" Nowak's family prepares to say goodbye, the Milwaukee Police Department has confirmed an honor procession will not accompany his body.
Nowak's family told us that the process was scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening with an honor walk from his hospital room to the operating room.
After the operation is complete, they said he'll pass away with his family by his side.
Nowak has been in the surgical ICU at Froedtert Hospital since the Sunday crash.
Throughout the week, MPD has not acknowledged the accident or Officer Nowak's condition, saying multiple times the department does not provide information on incidents that happen out of its jurisdiction or involve members that were off duty when it happened.
When Nowak's family told us he would not survive his injuries, we then asked MPD what honors were being planned for him, similar to the procession for fallen officer Peter Jerving.
Milwaukee police said simply, "Honors are for line of duty deaths, and this is not a line of duty death."
