MPD officer injured by firework, taken to hospital during Brady Street response

UPDATED: JULY 6, 2026, 12:50 p.m. 

MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police say the injured officer, a 33-year-old woman, was in foot pursuit of multiple people discharging fireworks when a blast from the firework injured her.

The officer was taken to the hospital for non-fatal injuries, and has since been released and is at home recovering. 

Milwaukee police are seeking information to identify suspects in connection to the incident.

MILWAUKEE, (CBS 58) -- New video tonight shows a violent scene along Milwaukee's Brady Street on the Fourth of July.

In the video, it shows officers running when a firework explodes in the parking lot of the Brady Street Walgreens, an officer falls to the ground. 

People then went over to try and help the officer as other officers arrived to help the potentially injured officer get away from the parking lot.

CBS 58 News spoke to a woman who said she saw the fireworks go off. 

“There were a group of guys throwing fireworks into the street and at the buildings and stuff," said witness Hollie Hicks. “It startled me. It’s just too common down here for stuff happening.” 

This comes only a couple weeks after a summer safety pilot program was launched to help combat violence near Brady Street.

CBS 58 has reached out to Milwaukee police for more information on the incident.
