MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The family of the Assata High School student that was shot and killed while leaving school Friday, Nov. 14, has identified him as 18-year-old Na'Mar Hicks.

"There's some good kids in Milwaukee and Na'mar was one of them," Hicks's Grandma Densie Williams said. "He was on the football team, he liked to play basketball, he loved his family."

Williams and other family members say Hicks was robbed and shot over a pair of shoes.

"We had to go into the hospital to look at my grandson in the bed with gunshots in him for no reason," Williams said. "He grew up wanting nice things and somebody else wanted the things that he wanted and they didn't have."

The family is calling for justice and answers, offering a $1500 reward for any information about what led to the robbery and shooting.

"This isn't going to bring him back, but please whoever knows any information, any video, anything, please come forward, we need anything," Hicks's Aunt Tonya Ross said.

The 17-year-old suspect was also transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries and is in police custody.

The lockdown remains in place Friday afternoon and Milwaukee police are seeking out additional suspect(s).

Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman held a press conference addressing the shooting.

"This is unacceptable Milwaukee," said Chief Norman. "This is absolutely unacceptable in regards that this is absolutely preventable, totally avoidable, and here we are having the same refrain about youth and gun violence. There is no place for firearms in our youths' hands."

Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson posted a statement sharing Chief Norman's sentiments towards the shooting.

David Sinclair is the outreach supervisor for 414 LIFE, a group that works to prevent violence throughout the city.

Sinclair and some of his team members were at the scene on Friday.

"Violence can happen anywhere," Sinclair said. "Many of the students know that this type of thing can happen at any given point and so at that point the students are like hey how do we get involved, we want to be the change."
