MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Teachers and staff rolled out the red carpet for students at Browning School Tuesday, Sept. 2.
It’s become a tradition for many schools across the area to greet kids before they enter the classroom with bells, pom poms and excitement.
Teachers, city and state leaders, including Gov. Tony Evers, were at Browning on Tuesday morning.
Students were excited to meet their teachers and see their classroom. Parents got in on the excitement, too.
One mom of two second graders said she’s already setting goals for her family for the 2025-26 school year.
"This year I'm trying to be on time. So, right now, we're early they get to experience," said Clara Baskin. "Look at him, he's excited. I like this for the first day; it's not writing and getting into books, they've got a little excitement, movement. I love it."
For the second school year, all MPS schools are following one calendar and start on Sept. 2.
