Worker dies after lumber pile collapse at West Bend construction site

CBS 58

WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A worker is dead after being pinned under a pile of lumber at a home construction site in West Bend, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and West Bend fire crews were called at around 9:27 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29 to the 3400 block of Highway NN after a 911 caller reported someone trapped beneath lumber.

The sheriff’s office said contractors had removed the person from under the pile before first responders arrived, allowing CPR to begin. The worker was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Polk, where the person was pronounced dead.

Investigators say lumber shifted off a telehandler’s forks while two workers were trying to secure it with a ratchet strap. The medical examiner’s office and OSHA are helping investigate the situation.
