New tribute to fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- There's a new tribute to fallen Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Michalski.

A bench and tree were installed in Manitoba Park.

They were placed directly across the street from the officers home by the Jackson Park Community Association.

Officer Michalski was shot and killed in the line of duty while trying to arrest a wanted suspect back in July of 2018.

Jonathan Copeland Jr., the man who pleaded guilty to killing Officer Michalski, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The saddest thing is that the shooter should never have been free in society. He was out on bail and and on parole and was caught as a felon with a firearm. Was released again and caught with a firearm again. For whatever reason the judge ran the two sentences concurrently. He was thus released after 3 years and weeks later shot and killed officer Michalski.
Copeland should have still been in prison - not free in society!
