No. 9 Marquette takes down Butler 80-70 for 1st Big East win

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - No. 9 Marquette overcomes some offensive struggles to take down Butler 80-70 to win its Big East opener.

MU starts the game 2 -18 from behind the arc, finishing 6-30, but overcomes the struggles from the outside by dominating the paint with 52 points inside.

The Golden Eagles forced 14 turnovers, eight in the second half to take control of the game and lead by as much as 14.

Kam Jones led the way with 23 points. David Joplin and Stevie Mitchell both added 15 points.

Marquette is now 10-2 (1-0) and heads on the road for two straight games against Xavier and Providence, before returning home on Jan. 3 to face Creighton.
