MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Northwestern Mutual hosted their annual Girls in Tech event Tuesday, May 14.
Local middle schoolers gathered at the company's campus for interactive activities focusing on science, technology, engineering and math.
Employee volunteers led the girls in activities such as guiding a "sphero-robot" through a maze with coding, learning about AI and data science, and general instruction about careers in tech.
"I think it broadens everyone's horizons and I think that's always such a cool opportunity, you know what I mean. Like, especially when you're not exposed to a lot of things, to put yourself out there in a way like that, it's always super cool to see different things and learn about other things. Even though I've been here already, it's always eye opening and you always like take something from it every time," said Aamira Mister, 7th grader.
This event continues the company's goal of adding more girls into the fields of science, a workforce that is still just 35% women.
