OAK CREEK, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Oak Creek government now has Amazon listed as the company requesting a 2.6 million sq ft facility in the city.

There were rumors Amazon was coming to Oak Creek, but many weren't sure what was going to fill the area off Ryan Rd near I-94.

"We were wondering what it was," Oak Creek Diner Manager Preston Kite said. "To know that's Amazon, it's a pretty big deal. It would bring a lot of people in here I think."

The plans call for a four story, 2.6 million sq ft distribution center. Amazon has a 1.1 million square foot fulfillment center and a 500 thousand sq ft distribution center in Kenosha. Local businesses say this continues a trend in Oak Creek.

"There's been a lot of growth in Oak Creek, and a lot of restaurants," Erv's Mug owner Danielle Baerwald said. "We've been here for a really long time since 79, and we're really hoping that more people in the area of course helps not only our business, but all of the businesses in the community."

Current plans call for the 1000 employees to work in two different shifts. Businesses hope those workers help with several local industries.

"For lunch time too, they want to stop by for a burger or custard, I think it's a great asset," Georgie Porgie owner Peter Liapis said.

Amazon said they had no comment. The Oak Creek Common Council is expected to vote on a deal with the company Tuesday.
