October starts wet as we look back on September's weather

NOW: October starts wet as we look back on September’s weather
NEXT:

The end of September and beginning of October was wet! We saw almost 48 hours of rain which started Tuesday night with a round of steady rain, then we dried out for parts of Wednesday before another round arrived Wednesday night and lingered most of the day Thursday. When the rain ended around midnight Thursday night many areas in southeast Wisconsin saw at least an inch of rain with some spots getting closer to 2.50".

The wet end to September added to a month that was already above average on rainfall. The entire month went into the September records as the 56h wettest September on record with 3.90" of rain. It was more than double what we saw last September in 2025 and well above the average.

September was also a mild month this year. Even though we had 13 days in a row with highs in the 60s, we had good warmth at the beginning of the month with a few days in the 80s and even September 2nd when we got to 90! Even with the cooler end to the month, a lot of those days had mild overnight lows in the 50s. The coldest low was only 47 degrees on the 27th. Overall, the average temp was 65.9 degrees which was almost a full degree above average and goes into the records as the 28th warmest on record.

During the month of October, we really see a drop from mild fall temps to chilly temps. The average highs drop from the upper 60s to the mid 50s and the average lows go from around 50 to the upper 30s. October averages just under 3" of precipitation including the possibility of a little snow with an average monthly snowfall of 0.3".
