MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Some police officers were recognized for their heroism after jumping into action in the aftermath of August's historic flooding.
Two people were pulled from the overflowing Menomonee River just days after the floods first hit.
They went in after their dog, who fell in before being washed away by the current.
Five officers stepped up, pulling them from the river and likely saving their lives. And for that work, the department honored them with letters of commendation Monday, Oct. 20.
"It was a great day, that nobody had any significant injuries and we were able to come out of there rescuing all of the individuals involved and none of our officers got hurt."
The missing dog, who wasn't pulled from the river at the time, was later found standing near the owner's car in a nearby parking lot, and thankfully, wasn't seriously injured.
