Officials: 5 hurt after vehicle crashes into Fond du Lac Verizon store

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Five people are hurt following a crash into a Verizon store in Fond du Lac. 

It happened just after 12:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 27. 

Police say a 20-year-old man from Oakfield, was traveling northbound on North Rolling Meadows Drive when the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle traveled approximately 300 feet off-road through parts of a terrace and parts of the Pet Smart and Dollar Tree parking lot before jumping over the curb of the Verizon parking lot and smashing through the building into Verizon’s showroom.

According to police, several customers were inside the store at the time of the crash. Three customers, a 30-year-old man, 23-year-old man, and 49-year-old woman, were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A medical helicopter transported a fourth customer to a hospital, a 29-year-old woman, with life-threatening injuries. 

The 20-year-old driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was also transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver was arrested for operating while impaired causing great bodily harm and was assessed by a Fond du Lac County Sheriff Deputy Drug Recognition Expert.

The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with their accident reconstruction unit.

An investigation is ongoing.
