MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee officials were called to a home near 7th and Lapham Tuesday morning, July 11, for a report of a man on a roof with a child.
Milwaukee police and fire departments were called to the scene around 9 a.m. and found 23-year-old Saul Hernandez on the roof with his 1-year-old son.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office says he was wanted on several outstanding felony warrants.
Police say Hernandez was dealing with psychiatric issues and may have been suicidal. Authorities also said he had some sort of weapon -- possibly a razor. Thankfully, the child and the man were rescued.
Battalion Chief Robert Hardung said the rescue took roughly five minutes.
Hernandez was then taken into custody by police.
"I'm very proud of the people who showed up on scene, the ladder crew, the crew on the ladder truck did a fantastic job," said Chief Hardung.
One neighbor said it wasn't the first time he's seen the man on the roof before.
“I was scared for the baby, because I have a little baby and that’s the second time he’s gone on the roof. The first time he didn’t have a baby," said Tiffany Willis, neighbor.
