Officials: Driver charged with hitting 4-year-old child in Froedtert clinic parking lot
CBS 58/Washington County Sheriff\'s Office WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 28-year-old Hartford woman has been charged after officials say she struck a 4-year-old child in the Froedtert West Bend Health Center parking lot.
Monica Larson is charged with the following:
- Injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle
- Possession of THC
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
- Possession of a controlled substance
The incident happened Monday, Jan. 5 just after 11 a.m.
According to a criminal complaint, a woman was walking in the parking lot carrying her child, while her two other children -- including the 4-year-old victim -- followed behind her.
Officials say Larson, driving a 2016 Chrysler 200, was arriving at the clinic for a physical therapy appointment and while looking for a parking spot she, "felt a bump, as if she had run over a pothole."
According to the criminal complaint, Larson heard the child's mother yell, and she stopped the vehicle.
Larson reportedly told responding officers she was in shock that she had run over a child.
The 4-year-old child was transported to Children's Wisconsin by ambulance; she suffered a cut to her liver, bruising around her lungs, but thankfully no broken bones or injuries to her head.
Back at the scene, the criminal complaint says responding officers smelled an odor of marijuana coming from Larson and her vehicle. Officials located inside marijuana, four pills used to treat ADHD in a baggie, and numerous items of contraband including glass smoking devices, a grinder, and a bong, the complaint says. Larson reportedly admitted to smoking marijuana that morning.
According to the complaint, Larson admitted she," clearly looked too fast and did not see one [child] straggling behind."
Larson is due in court on Jan. 29.
