RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 26-year-old man is dead after Racine police say his girlfriend ran him over with a vehicle during an argument. 

The incident happened Sunday, Sept. 20 near Hubbard and Wisconsin streets.

According to police, just before 3 a.m., a caller reported his neighbor was run over by his girlfriend and was not moving. 

Officers arrived at the scene and located the victim, identified as Darius Allen of Racine, in the road; he was transported to a hospital in critical condition with several internal injuries. Hours later, police say Allen died at the hospital. 

An investigation revealed the victim and his girlfriend, identified by police as 22-year-old Adasia Jones of Mt. Pleasant, got into a fight which escalated to Allen jumping on the hood of Jones' vehicle. Jones reportedly drove away and Allen fell from the vehicle. Moments later, according to police, Jones returned to the scene and ran over Allen with her vehicle. 

Officials say Jones was found to be under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the incident. She was arrested and charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
