Driver arrested after pursuit, crash injures teen passenger

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 22-year-old man was arrested after a vehicle pursuit that began near 37th and Villard and ended in a crash Sunday, Aug. 23, according to Milwaukee police.

MPD reports that officers stopped the man's vehicle for a registration violation around 4:06 p.m., but he allegedly fled recklessly as officers approached.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle hit a parked car near 27th and Glendale. The driver was arrested after a foot chase, and a 16-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — Milwaukee police and the FBI responded to a crash on the city's north side Sunday afternoon that witnesses said stemmed from a police pursuit.

A CBS 58 news crew followed police squads to the scene near North 27th Street and West Cornell Street just after 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23.

A Volkswagen sedan appeared to have crashed into the back of a Nissan, causing significant damage to both vehicles.

Neighbors told CBS 58 off camera that the driver of the Volkswagen was fleeing police when the vehicle struck the Nissan, which was parked and unoccupied.

After the crash, witnesses said the driver of the Volkswagen ran from the vehicle and through neighboring yards toward Teutonia Avenue.

At least two passengers from the Volkswagen remained at the scene.

One woman appeared to be seriously injured but conscious. Paramedics treated her at the scene before she was taken away by Bell Ambulance.

The Milwaukee Police Department's K-9 unit searched nearby yards. CBS 58 crews also saw FBI personnel at the scene.

Both vehicles were towed away shortly after 5:30 p.m.

CBS 58 is waiting for Milwaukee police to confirm what led to the crash and whether anyone was arrested.
