MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Monday, March 6 kicked off the Youth Victory Over Violence week, a week dedicated to anything anti-violence.
In a span of a month, between February and now, CBS 58 has reported on a death or a non-fatal shooting involving a teen almost every weekend.
On Sunday, a 13-year-old girl and 17-year-old boy were shot in different locations of Milwaukee. Both are expected to survive.
Youth Victory Over Violence week entails speakers from different violence prevention organizations. They are expected to visit about four MPS schools in the next coming days. The conversations will surround sexual and domestic violence prevention, reckless driving and mental health.
"The purpose for the Youth Victory Over Violence Week is to change the mindset of our youth today and steer them into the right direction of being more positive youth," said founder of the initiative, Tracy Dent.
Dent said given the uptick in gun violence amongst teens, his initiative is more important now than ever.
"If we can change just a few of them, you know, maybe they can also talk down some other youth from causing any harm, stealing cars and things like that, because it's going to be like a domino effect," said Dent.
