Pacers fans sue Bucks, Patrick Beverley over 2024 playoff game incident

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A lawsuit has been filed against the Milwaukee Bucks and former Bucks guard Patrick Beverley over something that happened last year.

This happened back in 2024 during the Bucks/Pacers playoff series. It was Game 6, Bucks at Pacers. As the game was winding down, Patrick Beverley walked towards the bench and threw a basketball at fans in the stand -- twice.

The NBA suspended Beverley for four games over the incident, but he never served the suspension because he signed with a team in the Euro league this past offseason.

Now, two Pacers fans are suing Beverley and the Bucks for damages.

Beverley has said although it doesn't excuse his actions, he was provoked.

He posted to "X" the day after the game, saying the incident wasn't fair at all.

He also talked about it during an episode of his podcast last year. He said he heard a fan call him a name he'd never been called before, but during that podcast, he wouldn't share what it was.

Beverley went on to say the situation was unfortunate and never should have happened, and he said he needs to be better.

The lawsuit accuses Beverley and the Bucks organization of battery, defamation, and emotional distress, according to the Indiana lawyer.

Indianapolis police investigated the incident, but no criminal charges were filed.
