Packers rookies land in Green Bay

NOW: Packers rookies land in Green Bay

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Packers have quite the collection of rookies in their draft class -- eight rookies, from seven different schools. And one thing they have in common is they're all excited to be with the green and gold.

"Everyone asked me, if there was one team, who would you want to get picked up," Savion Williams said. "I told them it was Green Bay, that’s where I would want to go. When I was a kid, just watching Aaron Rodgers, I mean it’s a dream. Having a cheesehead, being a cheesehead. Man, I love being a cheesehead."

"Very historic team, very historic stadium," Collin Oliver said. "Fans here are really tight knit. Goes to show how much the Packers mean to this community,"

This weekend starts with getting acclimated with their new home and new teammates, like Jordan Love.

"I met him yesterday, and it was like, whoa, what’s going on," John Williams said.

"He text me literally after I got drafted, told me it's time to go to work," Matthew Golden said. "Congratulated me and told me it’s time to go to work."

Saturday will be their first chance to step on the field.

"The best time of the year is when our players are in the building, so whether it's rookies or veterans, it’s always exciting," LaFleur said.

"It’s exciting anytime I get to touch the field," Collins said. "I don’t take any moment for granted out there."

"That’s all I been waiting on," Golden said. "I’m glad the process of the combine and all those visits is over with. Now I'm just back to playing football."

The rookies will have a brief stay in Green Bay before leaving next week and then coming back the following Sunday.
