MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) --- The Packers Tailgate Tour is back. It's a tradition that started 18 years ago and day one of the 2024 tour included a stop to a Milwaukee High School.

Former Packers Pro Bowler, Mike Daniels, joined a group of other alumni and current players to tour Wisconsin this week.

Students at Messmer High School got a lesson on perseverance from some of their favorites in the game of football.

"You may not see it because they're young. They may not see it but there are so many people who have come from these types of environments and done amazing things and I let them know, whenever you watch your favorite football team, most of the guys out there, they're a shining example of that," said Daniels.

The tour is making several stops around southern Wisconsin to visit fans in different communities. Many of the stops are a surprise and include retirement communities, businesses, and schools.

Messmer students got to hear each athlete talk about their time in the NFL and challenges they've overcome.

Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy was joined by current players Elgton Jenkins, Kenny Clark and Rasheed Walker. Along with Mike Daniels, alumni players included Bryan Bulaga and Alex Green.

The group is traveling on a Packers-themed tour bus that's hard to miss on the highway.

The Packers Tailgate Tour has been an annual tradition since 2006 and returned last year after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

"We always say we have great fans but when you go on ... a 5-day trip like this. Going across the state, you really get an appreciation of how special our fans are," said Mark Murphy.

After Milwaukee, the next stop is Kenosha, and the tour will continue through Saturday.
