Passenger seriously hurt after being ejected from fleeing vehicle, struck by MPD squad

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One man is hurt after police pursuit ended in a crash in Milwaukee early Thursday, May 14. 

Milwaukee police say around 6:30 a.m. near North 30th and North, officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle taken in a burglary. However, the vehicle didn't stop and a pursuit started. 

According to police, the fleeing vehicle crashed into another vehicle near 30th and Locust, and a passenger inside the fleeing vehicle was ejected and struck by a Milwaukee police squad. 

Police say the driver fled on foot and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. 

The injured passenger, a 30-year-old Milwaukee man, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. 

The driver, a 35 year old Milwaukee man, was taken into custody and was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. Criminal charges will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the upcoming days.

No one in the other vehicle was injured.

The officer involved in this incident is a 26-year-old man with six-and-a-half years of service. Per Milwaukee Police Department Standard Operating Procedures, the officer has been placed on administrative duty.

 The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team will be investigating this incident and the West Allis Police Department will be the lead law enforcement agency in the investigation.
