People gather to protest against the deployment of ICE agents into major cities

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This afternoon, Sept. 14, people protested the Trump Administration's decision to send ICE officials into major cities.

It was one of several protests held across the country.

A group called the "Milwaukee Fights Back Coalition" gathered at the federal courthouse downtown.

They called for ICE agents to stop arresting suspected illegal immigrants.

Organizers say they're hoping to garner support from across the political spectrum.

"I hope that they're seeing there needs to be solidarity," said Alan Chavoya of the Freedom Road Socialist Organization. "There needs to be a broad, united front. We might not see eye-to-eye on every single issue, we might not see eye-to-eye ideologically, we're going to be seeing eye-to-eye on action. And the action today is going to be the defense of our communities."

Chavoya says today's protest was originally focused against the National Guard's deployment to Chicago.

But he said when President Trump walked back that deployment, protesters instead focused on the actions of immigration enforcement agents.
