Police discover bomb-making materials inside West Allis business
West Allis Police Department WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 obtained new body camera video of the moment West Allis police discovered materials to make a bomb at a local landscaping business.
West Allis police received the tip in December of last year that Joseph Godlewski, an employee at Metropolitan Maintenance and Landscaping, was allegedly making a bomb at his workplace.
Body camera video shows the moment one officer recognized the materials used for explosive devices inside Godlewski's desk.
During their search, officers found items including fuse sticks, powders, wires, and other materials investigators say would be used to make bombs.
In a criminal complaint, police say they received an anonymous complaint that Godlewski had previously made a bomb and also detonated it before. Investigators were also told Godlewski ordered the materials from Amazon.
The City of Milwaukee's Bomb Squad shut down the West Allis building for roughly six hours to remove all of the materials.
Godlewski is being charged with a felony for being in possession of an improvised explosive device. He's due back in court next month.
