66-year-old killed in hit and run near N. Teutonia and W. Ruby identified
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Police are looking for the driver of a deadly hit and run that happened at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 along N. Teutonia and W. Ruby Ave.
Family members identify the man hit and killed in the crash as 66-year-old Jimmie Betties.
They family says this is the second family member they've had killed by reckless driving on Teutonia.
Neighbors that live along the stretch of road where it happened compare it to a Nascar track.
"It's just bad," said Charisma Johnson, who lives near where the crash happened. "It's an accident-prone area."
Johnson and her family were coming home Thursday night when they heard the deadly crash.
“My family was coming in and we all heard the boom," said Johnson. "And sirens came afterwards, after they went inside the house.”
The Milwaukee Police Department says in that crash, a 66-year-old man was hit and killed by a driver who then left the scene.
"Should nobody be able to like sit there and take their life and then leave," said Johnson. "That’s a sad story and you know that could be my family, you know, brother, sister."
Residents growing frustrated and uneasy with what they say is constant reckless driving.
"It's like a Nascar," said Johnson. "They just need to have police out here patrolling more, have a speeder out here, have cameras on the lights, that way they can catch that person that hit somebody."
Investigators said are seeking an unknown suspect or suspects.
