Medical examiner identifies man killed in officer-involved shooting at VA Medical Center

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man killed by police after pulling a gun at the VA Medical Center as 35-year-old Joseph W. Denton of Milwaukee.
Police say Denton was asked to drop his weapon. When he did not comply, VA police fired multiple shots.
Denton was taken to the emergency department, where he later died.
The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened overnight at the VA hospital.
Police say an unknown man, with a shotgun, walked onto the property, where he later died.
It was back to business as usual Tuesday at the Milwaukee VA, but Monday night there was a much different scene, as a heavy police presence filled the property.
Around 8:40 p.m. Monday night, an unknown man walked onto the property with a weapon.
VA Center police instructed the man to drop his weapon, but he did no comply. It was after the man pointed the gun at officers and threatened them with his weapon that police fired multiple shots, striking the man.
The man was taken to the emergency department on site, where he later died. The VA says the man was not a veteran.
No one else was injured, and police say there was no threat to the safety of veterans and employees.
The Milwaukee Police Department has taken over the investigation.
At this time, the VA says they have not received approval to release new information in this case.

According to the VA, around 8:40 p.m. on Monday, July 6, an unknown man, with a weapon, was stopped by VA Police on the property. Authorities say police ask the man to drop his weapon, but he did not. They say he then threatened officers and police fired multiple shots at the man.
He was taken to the facility's Emergency Department where he later died.
There were no other injuries.
The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating.
