CBS 58 MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- While winners have been announced in the August primary, election officials in Milwaukee County are working to certify the results.
This comes after a human error caused a delay in the process on Tuesday.
The City of Milwaukee Election Commission Executive Director Paulina Gutierrez said they discovered five of the nine flash drives brought to central count had the audit log downloaded and not the results.
They had to go back, and it caused a delay.
At the courthouse on Thursday, the Milwaukee Election Commission is holding its canvass. This is when all the municipalities in Milwaukee County bring over ballots and the county essentially audits them to certify the election results.
CBS 58's Kathryn Merck asked the director of the Milwaukee Election Commission, Michele Hawley, about the human error Tuesday night. She said staff members are working hours upon hours and asked people to extend a little grace to those making an election possible.
“I recognize people are concerned and I think we should all be concerned about our elections these days. I also want to say that in Milwaukee County and across Wisconsin, there are a lot of checks and balances and sometimes mistakes happen and our job is to mitigate that error and make sure we get it rectified as soon as possible," said Hawley.
The director of the election commission said they plan to certify the results next week.
