MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, CBS 58 is highlighting Latinos who are making a difference.
Patricia Ruiz Cantu has been Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's Community Outreach Manager for the past five years. She is currently helping promote voter registration in the city.
Ruiz Cantu is working hard to make people aware of what is happening in the city, as well as bringing violence prevention and intervention services to the city's south side.
She says she's glad to be an inspiration to the youth in Milwaukee.
"I feel very, very happy a lot of the people reflect themselves on me so they tell their children if I did it they can do it also, I’ve been able to accomplish what I was able to accomplish they also can accomplish too. I feel very happy to be a mentor to some young people," said Ruiz Cantu.
Ruiz Cantu has also engaged in politics; from 2017 to 2018, she was the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin Latino Caucus and co-chair of the campaign of Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele.
