Racine house fire, woman dies from injuries
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Fire Department says a woman is dead after sustaining injuries in a house fire late Fri. night on Nov. 1st.
Officials say it happened at around 10:16 p.m., in the area of 21st and Indiana Street in Racine.
Upon arrival, crews battled a working fire with smoke coming out of the front door, and flames coming out of windows.
Search crews located the victim inside the home and transported her to the hospital where she died of her injuries.
The victim was the only person in the home.
The Racine Fire Department says the fire was deemed under control within 22 minutes, and total loss was stopped within 38 minutes.
The fire is still under investigation, but no foul play is suspected.
Damage estimates are $74,000 for the structure, and $22,000 for the contents.
Officials say there were no smoking alarms found in the home.
The Racine Fire Department would like to remind the public that working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are recommended to be installed on each level of a home at a minimum. They say Ideally, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should be installed in every room of the home.
