Racine & Me: Belle City Brassworks continues 36th season with Spanish-themed concert

RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- Belle City Brassworks, Racine’s favorite brass band, continues its 36th season on Sunday, June 8 at 3 p.m. With a Latin-themed concert. “The Music of Espana” will take place at the Frances Bedford Concert Hall at the university of Wisconsin Parkside’s Rita Tallent Picken Regional Center for Arts & Humanities.

Admission to the concert is free; baskets will be passed during intermission to collect donations to support the nonprofit organization of volunteer musicians. Additional support for this concert comes from roger Palmen Chevrolet of Union Grove.

The group of 42 experienced brass players, led by music director Doug Johnson, will take the audience on a musical journey with a variety of Spanish-inspired pieces, including: “Malaguena,” “The Children of Sanchez” by Chuck Mangione, “Espana” by Chabrier, “Amparito Roca,” “Fiesta de la Vida” and more.

Looking ahead, the Belle City Brassworks will perform at the Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. On May 26 at Graceland Cemetery before taking its summer break. Watch for announcements about its 37th season, which will begin with a return to the Bedford Concert Hall Stage on Sunday, Nov. 2.
