Racine & Me: ‘Firebringer’ lights up the stage at Sixth Street Theatre

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — The Stone Age is getting a musical makeover in downtown Racine.

Over Our Head Players is bringing “Firebringer” to the Sixth Street Theatre, combining music, comedy and a prehistoric story about the discovery that changes civilization forever.

The StarKid musical follows a tribe living in a world where survival is the priority — until one spark sets off a revolution. The show uses satire, music and a colorful cast of characters to put a comedic spin on the invention of fire and everything that follows.

“Firebringer” features a book by Matt Lang, Nick Lang and Brian Holden, with music and lyrics by Meredith Stepien and Mark Swiderski. Over Our Head Players describes the production with the tagline, “The Stone Age was never this lit!”

Director Anne Mollerskov joined Racine & Me to talk about bringing the musical to the stage, what audiences can expect from the production and the work that goes into creating a show that mixes big laughs with an unconventional take on human history.

“Firebringer” opened Sept. 25 and continues through Oct. 18 at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth St. in Racine. Performances are held Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $26, plus a $2.50 fee. The production is intended for mature audiences due to language.
