Racine & Me: Local artist turns Wind Point Lighthouse into works of art

Don Ricchio

RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- For local Racine artist Don Ricchio, creativity has never been limited to a canvas.

Over the years, Ricchio has created more than 5,000 paintings, transforming everything from traditional canvases to unique surfaces like saw blades and other found objects into works of art.

His latest project celebrates one of Racine County's most recognizable landmarks: the Wind Point Lighthouse.

Ricchio hand-paints decorative garden posts featuring the iconic lighthouse, giving residents and visitors alike a chance to bring a piece of the historic structure home. The pieces have become popular among lighthouse supporters and art lovers who appreciate both the landmark and the craftsmanship behind each creation.

The project also serves a larger purpose. Proceeds from the lighthouse-themed artwork help support preservation efforts and the continued upkeep of the Wind Point Lighthouse, ensuring future generations can enjoy the historic beacon along Lake Michigan.

Ricchio joined Racine & Me to discuss his lifelong passion for art, what inspires his work and why the Wind Point Lighthouse remains such a meaningful symbol for the community.
