Racine & Me: New woodland StoryWalk brings reading and nature together

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — A new experience near Burlington is giving families a chance to combine reading, outdoor exploration and hands-on learning.

Seno K/RLT Conservancy will celebrate the grand opening of the Seno Woodland StoryWalk from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Seno Woodland Center, 3606 Dyer Lake Road, just south of Burlington.

Developed in partnership with the Burlington Public Library and Burlington Area School District, the new trail features 24 story stations along a woodland path. Children and their caregivers can read a story page by page as they make their way through the natural landscape.

Organizers say the project is designed to encourage childhood literacy while also promoting movement, outdoor exploration and a connection with nature.

"This project transforms conserved land into a living classroom," Seno K/RLT Conservancy Executive Director Paul Sloth said. "By connecting reading with nature, the Seno Woodland StoryWalk gives children and families a chance to slow down, discover the woods in a new way, and build lasting connections with the natural world."

Burlington Public Library Assistant Director Tricia Cox said the partnership extends the library's mission beyond its walls by creating another way for families to connect with stories and learning.

The StoryWalk also honors the legacy of Dr. Elvira Seno, whose vision continues to influence the conservancy and its mission.

Community members are invited to attend the Sept. 12 grand opening to experience the trail and learn more about the organizations that helped bring the project to life.
