RACINE, WI (CBS 58) -- The Racine Art Museum hosts an annual community exhibition showcasing art made from or inspired by colorful marshmallow Peeps® candy. Each year, the exhibition garners national media attention and draws thousands of visitors during its two- to three-week run. · Curating an exhibition that showcases Peeps® artwork is somewhat unexpected for a museum. However, the concept of working with unusual materials is supported by RAM’s mission to exhibit, collect, preserve, and educate in the field of contemporary craft—a subsect of art that focuses on handmade work created traditionally from ceramic, fiber, glass, metal, polymer, and wood. Artists consistently push material boundaries, so the idea that they sometimes utilize and experiment with materials produced for purposes other than art-making can be seen throughout RAM’s exhibitions and many works in the museum’s permanent collection—the largest contemporary craft collection in North America. · Artists of all ages and abilities are invited to submit work as an individual or group—one entry per person/ group. As long as the work adheres to specific size and media requirements listed in the entry form, utilizes or references Peeps®, and depicts family-friendly subject material, the entry will be displayed. · In-person drop-off of entries takes place at the Racine Art Museum on Friday, March 8, and Saturday, March 9, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. Shipped entries must arrive at RAM no later than Thursday, March 7, and must include prepaid postage if entrants want return shipping.
