Racine & Me: Video workshop gives local youth hands-on media experience

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) — The Racine Video Production Workshop is approaching its 10th year of helping young people develop hands-on skills in filmmaking, podcasting, photography and other areas of media production.

The program gives students opportunities to learn interviewing, camera operation, audio and video equipment, editing and promotional content creation while working together as a production crew.

One of the workshop's most recent projects was the Main Gallery Podcast, a 12-episode series featuring artists, athletes, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and community leaders from Racine and the surrounding area.

Local teenagers were hired by the City of Racine to help produce the podcast while learning media production skills. Students conducted interviews, operated cameras, managed audio and video equipment and created promotional content for the series.

Organizers say projects like the podcast allow students to build career skills, express themselves creatively and learn about the many different roles available in media production.

The Racine Video Production Workshop's next youth program begins in late September 2026 through the after-school program at Case High School.

The program will meet Mondays after school.
