A boost in temperatures despite the lack of sunshine
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A fire on Milwaukee's south side claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman on Thursday, Dec. 8.
The fire happened at an apartment complex near 20th and Layton. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation and 39 residents had to find shelter elsewhere.
10 of those survivors stayed in a Red Cross shelter that was set up at Holler Park. CBS 58 stopped at the shelter this morning. We talked to one woman who was grateful for the place to stay and hopeful that she could soon go back to her apartment.
"We can go back maybe this evening," said Debra Gildart, who was displaced by the fire.
CBS 58 asked how she was feeling about that.
"I'm hap. It's the weekend," said Gildart.
"So, we just give them comfort and care, y'know, food, something to drink, just a place to stay until they figure out what's next," said Jennifer Warren with the Red Cross.
The cause of Thursday's fire is still under investigation.
