MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee is home to Wisconsin's first and only Black-owned bank, and now Milwaukee County may help invest in its vision.
The county's committee on finance voted unanimously to recommend a resolution that encourages the county treasurer to find chances to deposit public funds into Columbia Savings and Loan.
The bank, as it celebrates its 100th year, is on a mission to get 100 families into homeownership by the end of 2024.
Columbia mostly serves low and moderate-income families who may not have other access to capital.
"Your vision is not only a testament to your commitment to promoting economic diversity and inclusion without community, but also highlights your dedication to supporting local institutions that play a crucial role in the economic empowerment of underrepresented communities," said Ernest Jones, Columbia Savings and Loan.
The bank hopes to raise $10 million this year to hit their '100 by 100th' goal.
