Rounds of rain followed by a shot at snow

Four days into the month of March, and here we go with a little madness of weather. Grab the rain gear, you will likely need it over the next 24 hours.
We're tracking widespread rain across the area for tonight and into Wednesday. Multiple rounds of rain--heavy at times--are expected late Tuesday into early Wednesday. By daybreak, rainfall totals may be close to an inch in many spots.
As the storm system rolls right over the area on Wednesday, we'll see an increase in wind speeds and a decrease in temperatures. Expect things to quickly turn colder through the afternoon. This cold air will change rain over to snow. Accumulations do appear possible, especially in our northern most counties.
While the snowfall values won't be large, there may still be some impacts on the roads. Stay alert as you head home from work on Wednesday.
In the short term, our biggest concerns will be for some minor flooding due to the rounds of rain. Double check sump pumps and any nearby drainage systems. Remember that a good chunk of the ground is still frozen, so some of this rain may not get absorbed and that will lead to run-off issues.
There may also be some traffic delays and incidents Tuesday evening, as people try to navigate roadways in the rain.
Then, for Wednesday, the wind may become a problem (gusts topping 30-35mph possible) and the visibility may decrease as snow pockets move through.
Behind this storm system, it will be a little cold for a couple of days. Highs may stall out in the upper 30s for Thursday and Friday. However, looking ahead, signs of spring are in the forecast. By the early part of next week, we may see highs in the 50s and even the 60s.
