School Bus Driver arrested for OWI with Children still on the Bus

UPDATE:  A mugshot of Jason Stalbaum has been released by the Racine County Sheriff's Department. 

A school bus driver in the Town of Waterford was arrested for an OWI after the school bus drove off the roadway with children on the bus.

On October 06 at approximately 2:11 PM the Racine County Communications Center received a 911 call that a school bus drove off the roadway into a corn field and then came back out onto the road and continued driving in the 3200 block of Buena Park Road in the Town of Waterford.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office deputies learned that the bus was owned by S & J Bus Services Inc out of Waterford.  Deputies learned that the bus driver was still on his route and children were on the bus.  The bus driver was ordered to pull over and stop.  The bus was located on STH 11 near CTH J in the Town of Burlington with pieces of corn stalks hanging from it’s undercarriage.

The bus driver was identified as Jason S. Stalbaum of Burlington.  It was found that there were still two children on the bus.  Contact was made with all of the children that were on the bus during the accident, four in total, and no one was injured.

Stalbaum was arrested and issued citations for OWI first offense with passenger 16 years of age or younger, hit and run accident causing property damage adjacent to highway, failure to report an accident, and unsafe lane deviation.
