MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) — Since this spring, green has been the theme at Highlands at Aero Park in Menomonee Falls.
A group of residents has taken it upon themselves to start a hydroponic garden under the direction of property manager Arden Property Group.
The garden grows five different kinds of lettuce along with several herbs. No soil is used — just light, water and seeds.
So far, about 150 bags of lettuce have been distributed to residents, and that number continues to grow.
The community also periodically hosts "produce parties" and market days featuring what is grown in the garden.
Those involved with the project say the timing could not be better, given concerns surrounding lettuce that have made national headlines this summer.
Leasing specialist Nikki Schaeffer said she is pleased with how the project has progressed and hopes the initiative can eventually be introduced at other Arden Property Group locations.
