MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Vehicle Inspection Program (WIVIP) is introducing vehicle emission testing kiosks.

According to a news release from the WIVIP, two self-service kiosks allowing motorists to conduct emission testing themselves have ben installed at new test-only facilities in Milwaukee and Oak Creek.

Vehicles with a model year of 2007 and newer will be able to test at the WIVIP Self-Service Kiosks.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) says the launch of the self-service kiosks is part of a larger initiative from the WIVIP to expand emission testing throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

The program is operated by Opus Inspection, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Opus oversees the nearly 200 emission test locations that are open across the seven-county inspection area.

“Our continuing goal is to facilitate vehicle emission testing,” said Opus CEO Andy McIntosh. “By expanding the number of testing options and adding 24/7, do-it-yourself test kiosks, we have taken a huge step in that direction.”
