RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Two tractor semi-tractors crashed head-on killing multiple people Tuesday, June 14, according to the Racine County Sheriff's Office.
A portion of I-94 was shut down between STH-11/Durand Ave due to the serious traffic crash.
According to the sheriff's office, the initial results of the investigation indicate that a semi-tractor pulling a flatbed trailer was traveling westbound on STH-11/ Durand Ave. when it crossed the center line and collided, head-on, with a semi-tractor pulling a dry bulk tanker.
The westbound semi-tractor became fully engulfed in flames, and the eastbound semi-tractor came to rest on its side.
The sheriff’s office and the Wisconsin State Patrol's accident reconstruction unit are still investigating the collision.
As of 1:30 p.m. the RCSO is still asking drivers to avoid the area and find an alternate route. They anticipate the highway will be shut down for several more hours.
