SHROEWOOD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In celebration of Black History Month, Shorewood High School held their 8th annual Black History Showcase on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
"We wanna bring awareness to our history, where our education system kind of lacks," said Isabella Busby, senior at Shorewood High School.
Organizers brought in local motivational speakers and poets to present at the event.
Kwabena Nixon is a poet from Chicago, he was the guest speaker at the showcase.
Nixon lost his father to violence at 11-years-old, and he struggled to find a sense of purpose.
He found that voice through art, dedicating his life to inspire others.
