Crash involving 5 vehicles along Racine highway causes multiple injuries, I-94 closure

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A six-vehicle crash on I-94 northbound near STH 11 in Racine injured multiple people and caused all northbound lanes of I-94 to close at STH 195 Sunday morning, June 7. 

According to the Racine County Sheriff's Office, an investigation indicates a 30-year-old woman in a silver Toyota Corolla was struck from behind by a 53-year-old man driving a silver Cadillac. Two more vehicles traveling northbound came upon the crash and were unable to stop -- resulting in a five-vehicle crash. 

The 30-year-old driver, from Racine, needed to be extricated from the vehicle and transported by ambulance and then Flight for Life for treatment of serious injuries. 

The 53-year-old driver, a Racine man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to treatment. 

No other injuries were reported. 

All northbound lanes of I-94 were closed for approximately five hours while officials responded to the scene. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Racine County Sheriff's Office.

We are grateful for the quick response of our deputies, dispatch, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office, the State Patrol, EMS personnel, and Flight for Life. Our thoughts remain with the injured woman and her loved ones as she continues her recovery," said Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.
