MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A coalition of religious leaders wanted people within Milwaukee's Black community to know their voices are important this election season.
They called Sunday, Aug. 4, "Souls to the Polls Sunday," a historically held day across the country for Black churches to vote early together.
The rally took place at the new Capitol Drive Voting Center, which replaced the Midtown Center.
The president of Souls to the Polls told CBS 58 that the new location is key for the city's Black community.
He said when they come out in Milwaukee, it makes a big impact on the election.
"The election was won in 2020 by 20,000 votes by President Biden. 18,500 of those votes came from Midtown Early Voting cite. That makes a huge difference," said Gregory Lewis, president of Souls to the Polls Wisconsin.
The next statewide election is Aug. 13, when Wisconsin voters will weigh in on two referendum questions to narrow down candidates for the U.S. congress, the state legislature, and some county races.
In some communities, early voting may start as early as Tuesday.
