'Spread holiday cheer': American Red Cross incorporates 'Elf' to promote need for donations
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The American Red Cross has called upon blood and platelet donors to help replenish the blood supply in anticipation of the upcoming holiday season. Facing a decline in donations during the late summer and fall, they say there is a pressing need for donors, particularly those with type O blood and those offering platelets.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the holiday film "Elf," the organization is providing an added incentive: between Nov. 10 - 30, donors will be gifted an exclusive set of Elf + Red Cross socks, available while stocks last. For more information, visit RedCrossBlood.org/Elf.
Eligibility for blood donation requires either a blood donor card, driver's license or two other identification forms during check-in. Potential donors should be in generally good health, and additional requirements vary based on age, height and weight.
Donations can be scheduled through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, RedCrossBlood.org or by calling (800) 733-2767.
