Staffing shortages causes STI Health Clinic to temporarily close

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) will temporarily close their Sexual and Reproductive Health, or STI, Clinic starting immediately at the Keenan Health Center. 

According to MHD, the department has been experiencing staffing shortages at the STI clinic and with the closure the department will work to rebuild the clinic's staff to ensure high-quality operations. 

"We remain deeply committed to providing accessible, equitable sexual and reproductive health care for all residents," stated Commissioner of Health Mike Totoraitis in a press release. 

Updates about the status of the STI Clinic's closure will be provided in the upcoming weeks according to the press release. 

During the closure, MHD encourages residents to access same-day STI testing and treatment at these following facilities: 

  • Milwaukee Health Services, Inc. (MHSI): 2555 N. Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Drive | (414) 372-8080. Tues–Fri, 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
  • Progressive Community Health Centers:
    • Lisbon Avenue Health Center – 3522 W. Lisbon Ave | Mon–Thurs, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; Fri, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
    • 12th Street Urgent Care – 945 N. 12th St | Mon–Fri, 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. (last check-in 6:30 p.m.)
  • Outreach Community Health Centers: 220 W. Capitol Dr. | (414) 727-6320. Mon–Thurs, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; Fri, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

MHD is also actively recruiting public health nurses and will hold multiple hiring events on Nov. 18, 21 and Dec. 1, along with other outreach campaigns.
